1. Circle the shorter actions in the past and underline the actions that were in progress.
1 While the police were interviewing the witnesses, the thief escaped through the back door.
2 Yesterday I was reading about the robbery which happened in my neighbourhood.

4 The security guard was patrolling the area when he spotted some suspicious behaviour.

3. Complete the dialogue with the correct form of the verbs in brackets.
Detective: What happened last night at the bank?
Witness: I was walking my dog when I saw a man outside the bank. He looked very suspicious.

Witness: He was standing near the door, when suddenly he ran away.
Detective: When you saw him, what did you notice about his appearance?
Witness: He was wearing a black hoodie and was carrying a big black bag.
Detective: While you were waiting for the police, what did you see?
Witness: I didn’t see anybody, but I heard strange noises. Detective: Thank you for the information. You helped us a lot.
