Ex. 2, p.171
I will recommend you, to see the Maryinsky Palace. It’s a unique monument of the 18th-19th century architecture.
It was built at a picturesque spot on the banks of the Dnipro river by the order of the Russian Empress in 1744.
In 1819 it was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 15 years.
It faces a beautiful park, which is 119 meters long.
Nowadays it became the place of official receptions for the most honoured guests. Look at this small toy-like structure. It's St. Andrewjs Church. As legendgoes, St. Andrew predicted that a magnificent city would appear there.
They say he put a cross on the hill and later on people built a church on this spot. It was named after him. When the Novgorod prince Oleh conquered the city and it was officially announced to be the capital of Kvivan Rus.

I am a regular theatergoer so I know the repertoire of our theater well. Some days ago we went to our Opera and Ballet House to see “Nutcracker”
I like ballet and I like the music of Tchaikovsky so I was looking forward to it. I was impressed very much. The scenery was wonderful, the acting was brilliant the music was beautiful.
I was looking at the stage with bated breath.
When the performance was over, we all burst into applause. The actors received a lot of curtain calls and flowers.
I think I got a powerful theatre experience that day.
