THE GHERKIN
Gherkin — одна з найвідоміших висотних будівель Лондона, його спроектував відомий британський архітектор Норман Фостер. Її вершину видно здалеку. Деякі люди кажуть, що він схожий на ракету, але більшість людей називають його просто Корнішон. Він був побудований таким чином, щоб економити енергію, тому витрати на опалення та охолодження не надто високі.

МІСТ МІЛЛЕНІУМ
Міст Міленіум — міст через річку Темзу. Людям подобається ходити по ньому, тому що на ньому немає руху. Його довжина 144 метри. Міст отримав прізвисько «Хисткий міст». Коли його вперше відкрили у 2000 році, тисячі людей, які проходили через нього, відчули легкий рух під ногами. Міст було закрито, проблему вирішено, і його знову відкрили 22 лютого 2002 року. У фільмі «Гаррі Поттер і напівкровний принц» смертежери Лорда Волдеморта намагаються зруйнувати міст, і після деякого повороту він падає в Темзу. На щастя, це був просто фільм!

Ця величезна будівля є резиденцією британського парламенту. Членів парламенту також називають депутатами. Люди обирають їх на виборах, які відбуваються кожні 5 років.

1.Put the verbs in brackets into the Past Simple Passive form.
a) The London Eye is in London, of course, and it was designed by British architects. However, it wasn't maked in Great Britain at ail! The main parts of the Eye were built in Holland. The other parts were maked in the Czech Republic, France, Germany and Italy. The parts were carried to Great Britain by ship. Then they were put together in London. It was opened to the public on 1st February, 2000.
b) The Millennium Bridge is a bridge across the River Thames in London. It was opened in 2000 by the Queen. However, it was closed again two days later because it wobbled too much! Two years later, on 22nd February, it was opened again. Now it is used by thousands of people every day.
