REVIEW 2. LIFE SKILLS
Сторінка 50
1. Ask and answer the questions with a partner.
1. Do you get along well with most people?
Yes, I usually do. I'm friendly and I try to understand others, so it's easy for me to get along with people.
2. What things make you feel upset or angry?
I get upset when people are rude or dishonest. It really annoys me when someone interrupts all the time.
3. What do you and your friends argue about?
We don't argue very often, but sometimes we disagree about plans - like where to go or what to do.
2. Read the text quickly. Match the titles (А - D) to four of the tips.
1 - C. Stay calm.
3 - B. Be clear and kind.
5 - D. Think together.
7 - А. Live and learn.

3. Match the sentences to similar ideas in the text.
1. Nice people sometimes do things that aren't right. Remember that even the best people make mistakes and nobody is perfect.
2. You should do something to make you feel calm after an argument. After you've had a serious argument, it's good to relax and cool down.
3. We sometimes say bad things to people when we're angry. When we're angry, we might say or even scream things that aren't kind.
4. We don't want to have the same problem twice. We don't want to repeat the same mistake again.
5. Try to put yourself in the other person's place.
Try to imagine how your friend is probably feeling at that moment.
6. A third person could help you find an answer.
You can get help from another friend or an adult if it helpful.
4. Match the highlighted words in the text to the meanings.
1. say that something is true or real - admit;
2. stopping someone who is speaking - interrupting;
3. find the answer to something or stop a problem - solve;
4. when people have a different opinion about something - disagreement;
5. shout something very loudly, in a high voice - scream;
6. movements and positions of your body and face that show other people how you are feeling, without using words - body language.
5. Discuss the questions.
1. When was the last argument you had with a friend? What did you argue about?
The last argument I had with a friend was about a week ago. We disagreed about a group project: I wanted to finish it earlier, but my friend thought we still had plenty of time. It wasn't a big fight, but we were both stressed and got annoyed with each other.
2. How did you deal with the conflict? Did you use any tips from the article?
At first, we both felt irritated, but then we decided to calm down and talk honestly.
I tried to use two tips from the article: listening without interrupting and explaining my feelings politely instead of shouting.
We discussed our expectations, and eventually we reached a compromise: we agreed on a realistic schedule that suited both of us.
6. Listen to a conversation. Why is Michael upset with Amy? Do they use any of the suggestions in the article to find a solution?
Michael is upset with Amy because she is late for thirty minutes. Amy's late very often and Michael is annoyed with that.
They cool down and Amy admits her mistakes. They think together and try to solve a problem.
7. Listen again and answer the questions.
1. What time did Amy arrive?
Amy arrived at half past five.
2. Who has got Amy's bicycle right now?
Her sister has got her bicycle right now.
3. When did Michael and Amy plan to meet?
Michael and Amy planned to meet at five o'clock.
4. Why does Amy usually arrive late?
Amy usually arrives late because she forgets about the time.
5. What solutions do Michael and Amy discuss?
Michael suggests sending Amy a text message before he leaves home. Amy thinks of setting an alarm on her phone, so it rings to remind her about the meeting.
6. What does Michael want to do right now?
Michael wants to go for a walk and visit a comic shop on Queen Street.
8. Complete the Useful language phrases with the words in the box.

Project.
Work with a partner. Write a dialogue about two friends who are having an argument. Use the situations and questions below to help you. Anna: Ben, can we talk? I'm really upset. Why are you always so careless with my things?
Ben: What do you mean?
Anna: You borrowed my headphones last week... and now you're telling me you lost them.
Ben: I know, I'm really sorry about that. But it was an accident.
Anna: Still, you should've been more careful. They were new!
Ben: I understand. It wasn't my fault completely - they fell out of my bag on the bus.
Anna: Well, I'm getting tired of this. This isn't the first time something like this happened.
Ben: You're right. And I want to fix it. I've got an idea - I can buy you the same model or transfer the money to you.
Anna: Okay... that sounds fair.
Ben: And I promise I'll take better care of anything I borrow from you in the future.
Anna: Thanks. I appreciate that.
Ben: So... are we good?
Anna: Yes, we're good. Let's go get some coffee or something.
Ben: Great. I'm glad we solved this.
