Its capital is Washington, D.C., and the largest city is New York. The country has many symbols such as the White House, the Statue of Liberty, and the eagle. Australia, with its capital Canberra, is the sixth largest country in the world and home to about 26 million people. It is located in Oceania, surrounded by the Pacific and Indian Oceans. The official language is English.
The climate varies from tropical in the north to deserts in the centre and even snowy mountains in the south–east. Australia is famous for its unique wildlife (kangaroos, koalas, platypuses), the Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, and over 10,000 beaches. A polar climate is when the weather is rather cold in summer and extremely freezing in winter. This climate is typical for the Arctic and Antarctic regions.
A tropical climate is when the weather is warm or hot during the whole year. It rains a lot there, so the air is not very dry. This type of climate can be found in western Africa, South America and the northern part of Australia.
A continental climate is when the weather is rather cold in winter and quite hot in summer. Eastern Europe, most of Canada as well as the eastern USA have this climate.
