TASK 1
WHY DO I HAVE TO BE A BABYSITTER?
1. Read the text about babysitting and say whose point of view you share. Explain why.
I share the point of view of the girl who says that babysitting helps you grow up and become responsible. I think helping your parents is important. Babysitting teaches you to care about others and to be patient. It can be difficult, but it makes you more independent and mature.
2. Add your ideas:
Babysitting teaches: to love little children, to become responsible, to be patient, to manage your time, to solve problems, to understand your parents better, to be kind and helpful.
3. Write how you feel about babysitting your younger brothers and sisters. Is it better to hire an outsider to babysit? Why/Why not? Which chores do teenagers in Ukraine do around the house? And you?
I think babysitting younger brothers or sisters is sometimes hard, but it is useful. It is better to help your family if you can. In Ukraine many teenagers help around the house: they clean their rooms, wash the dishes, cook simple meals, take out the rubbish and look after younger children. I also help my parents at home and sometimes look after younger children in my family.

1. Read about the three Tytla brothers and answer the questions given after the text.
1. How many children did Spiridon and Olha Tytla have? - They had three sons.
2. What changed the life of Tytla's family? - The Second World War changed their lives.
3. Who sang in many choruses as lead tenor and soloist? Name some of the choruses. - Ewhen sang with the Dumka Chorus, the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus, the Millennium Chorus and the Lysenko Opera Chorus.
4. Who of the three brothers became an artist? - Bohdan became an artist.
5. Who acted as an archivist of the chorus? Tell about her activities. - Bohdana acted as an archivist. She did audio and video taping.
6. Who studied iconography? Where can we find her works? - Halyna. Her works are in churches in the USA and Ukraine.
7. Who was very active in Plast? What award did he receive? - Markian received the St. George in Gold award.
8. What kind of woman is Natalia Tytla? - She is kind, sensitive, patient and generous.

Bohdan Tytla was married to Halyna. She studied iconography, and her works decorate churches in the USA and in Ukraine.
Markian Tytla was married to Natalia. They raised two sons and twin daughters. Natalia was kind and devoted.
Ewhen Tytla was married to Bohdana. She helped him in his work and acted as an archivist of the chorus.

I have learned that even poor people can be kind, patient and loving. Charlie didn't complain and appreciated even a small piece of chocolate. The story teaches us to be grateful and hopeful.
Yes, there are needy families in many neighbourhoods. We can help them by giving clothes, food or school things. We can also support charity events and be kind to their children.

Yes, my predictions were confirmed. At first I thought the text would be about hot and cold weather. While reading, I understood that it also explains the Fahrenheit and Celsius scales and how to convert temperatures.
3. Convert the temperature from the Fahrenheit to the Celsius and vice versa.
40° F = 4° C; 55° F = 13° C; 78° F = 26° C.
-5° C = 23° F; 20° C = 68° F; -10° C = 14° F.
